In response to a letter requesting the Rebbe’s brucha for launching this fund-raising effort, we inserted the letter in a random page of a random volume of the Rebbe’s Igros and received the following letter in which the Rebbe discusssed raising money for a mitzvah (Moas Chitim): Igros Kodesh, Volume 4, pp. 590-591

“The fund of Moas Chitim is one of the things that the Rebbe, my father-in-law) took an interest in. Therefore it continues until this day. Needless to say this emphasizes the greatness of this mitzva.”

“Through fulfilling kol dichfin in gashmius and ruchnius, we hasten the Lishono Habaah beeretz Yisroel, the Geulah. I ask you to please give from me, a thanks and a Brocho to those who are involved and dealing with, and getting others to have the zechus in joining in the important mitzva of this fund. Wtih hope they continue and add more strength in doing this holy work and continue going higher and higher.

I bentch each of those who are doing this, with all they need.”

Let's be there for those in need

We are all aware of those who live in poverty, who struggle to meet their basic requirements of food, shelter, clothing, children's education and so much more. Boruch Hashem there are many organizations and individuals who are dedicated to meeting these needs: food pantries, programs of cash assistance, thrift stores and gemachs, tuition programs, etc. Yet despite all the great efforts and kindnesses there are still many whose basic needs are not met.

Needs that are private: addiction prograns, suicide prevention programs, emergency medical issues, legal costs that can't be publicized, psychiatric problems.

Those who are too embarrassed to wait on food pantry lines, those who can't carry packages home, those who can't leave their young children alone.

Emergencies: eviction, utility cut-offs, car repossessions, arrests.

Those who can't let others know they live on tzedakah and must keep up appearances.
